About

The Polochar Inn with restaurant and bar, open to the public, is just a 5 minute walk from the house. The sandy beach is below the house and stretches round a headland to the amazing Garrynamonie machair and beach, a vast expanse of sand and dunes. The machair runs parallel to the beach and is ideal for walking. It is a haven for wildlife, such as the elusive corncrake and in the summer months the machair is peppered with an assorted variety of wildflowers, including rare orchids, Scottish bluebells and bog cotton.

There is a supermarket 10 minute drive, a cafe 5 minute drive and the Island of Eriskay is just a 15 minute drive. Cyclist will find that this stunning corner of South Uist is a lattice of quiet single track lanes which weave their way through the crofting communities and along the shore. This is the chance to step back in time to a less hurried, relaxing and tranquil lifestyle and Lingeigh is the perfect house to enjoy this atmosphere. Mornings and evenings see short-eared owls hunting in the machair and farmland surrounding the house and their beautiful swooping and diving acrobatics are a pleasure to watch - all from the comfort of the sitting room!

The beaches of South Uist are invariably quiet and you may well find yourself the only occupants. Beachcombing for shells and driftwood can be rewarding, especially after a storm.

The house is suitable for families, those with pets, couples and friends. In fact it is hard to imagine who would not find it a relaxing and accommodating house for a truly Hebridean holiday.
