About
Canna Cottage is situated on the east side of Barra overlooking the bay and just a short drive from the ferry terminal from Eriskay and the airport. The stunning beaches are also in easy reach and Castlebay is a 6 mile drive to the south.
Barra is small and friendly and allows walkers and cyclists to explore the many little beaches and coves, cafes and shops dotted around the island. A short ferry journey across to Eriskay opens up another isalnd for exploring and a causeway from Eriskay to South Uist opens up the whole of the Uists for a days touring. South of Barra is Vatersay island, also reached by causeway and yet another source of stunning scenery and sandy beaches.
Bird watchers could take a sailing to Mingulay which is south again from Vatersay and has cliffs and bird colonies to match St Kilda although a trip to the famous St Kilda should be on everyones bucket list!
Castlebay will be instantly recognisable for those who are fans of the original Whisky Galore and what could possibly be better than sitting on the deck of a cafe with a glass in hand! Driving, or not a fan of the strong stuff? Not to worry you have excellent alternatives in the lovely water-front cafe. The best fudge in the islands is available here.
