About

Great Northern Divers are common along the Harris coastline throughout the winter an can be seen in large numbers in the Sound of Taransay and Sound of Harris. They are a large streamlined shape with a dagger like bill.

Great-northern divers can easily be confused with red-throated and black-throated divers that are a similar shape but considerable smaller and slighter. They are usually seen in winter plumage but in April and May some birds are seen in spectacular summer plumage
