About

Mostly a winter visitor but small numbers can also be found throughout the summer, usually in their grey and white none-breeding plumage. Scan the Sound of Barra from the Polochar car park. Birds may drift past with the tide. Best to look at low tide when divers often fish close inshore. Commonest from late autumn until early May. Regularly seen catching crabs and flat fish in coastal waters in all months of year

Generally silent.
