About

Location 9

A good track runs from the car park across Benbecula past Ruabhal, its highest peak to the East coast. This area of moorland hosts breeding hen harrier, merlin and short-eared owl as well as resident buzzard and kestrel. Further east there is the chance of golden eagles and white-tailed eagles around the rugged coastline. The low lying moorland to the south of Ruabhal is a particularly good area for hen harrier and short-eared owl.

When to visit

April to July are the best months for hen harrier, short-eared owl and Merlin.

Other wildlife

Red-throated and black-throated divers are regularly seen on the numerous lochs and lochans that the track passes. Twite and stonechat are often seen in areas of tall heather.

How to get there

Follow the sign for Reuval path from the A865 four miles north of Creag Ghoraidh. The car park is ½ mile from the main road.
