About

This service is part of a winter trial run to determine the viability of this route. The crossing takes approximately 3.5 hours, running 2 days a week in the winter, with 2 crossings to Lochboisdale and 2 crossings back to Mallaig on a Tuesday and Saturday. It runs on the 2 days that the Lochboisdale - Oban ferry is not scheduled to run. Please note, this ferry service will run in the summer season of 2016 instead of the Oban - Locchboisdale service.

You can travel from Lochboisdale through the chain of islands and cross to the mainland using Caledonian Macbrayne Hopscotch tickets, which give you lots of options.

The ferry terminal is within walking distance to the shops, railway station and bus stop.

If you are taking a car, you are advised to book early as the ferry can be very busy. The drive from Inverness to Mallaig is approximately 2.5 hours and from Glasgow/Edinburgh takes approimately 3.5/4 hours. You are required to be at the ferry terminal at least 45 minutes prior to departure.

It is also advisable to check the ferry service status, as ferries can be delayed or cancelled due to adverse weather.
