About

Eriskay Jersey's are traditional jerseys which where knitted by the women of Eriskay for their fishermen husbands. The finely knitted seamless jersey was crafted this way for warmth and to keep out the damp. Intricate patterns were used which had an individual pattern for each fisherman and it is said that this was to enable identification, if a fisherman was lost at sea. Today, only a small number of women produce these jerseys and can be ordered at the community shop in Eriskay.
